Seoul Robotics announced on the 26th that it had raised approximately KRW 30.8 billion in a Series B round led by KB Investment, FuturePlay, Noh & Partners, KB Securities, and the Korea Development Bank.
Founded in 2017, Seoul Robotics is a startup developing 3D LiDAR software, often called the eyes of autonomous vehicles. It has introduced a new approach, “Autonomy Through Infrastructure (ATI),” which places autonomous driving systems in infrastructure rather than in individual vehicles. Conventional systems require expensive, high-performance sensors and computers in each vehicle. By extending intelligent transportation networks, infrastructure-based autonomy eliminates blind spots and improves safety.
Seoul Robotics’ proprietary ATI solution, the Level 5 Control Tower (LV5 CTRL TWR), is powered by SENSR™, its core 3D perception technology. Built on five years of deep-learning development, SENSR™ is a leading 3D computer vision software that delivers high-resolution perception even in severe weather. It offers exceptional accuracy, efficiency, and safety. It can also achieve Level 5 autonomy, enabling hundreds of vehicles to move in coordinated fleets with full automation.
Backed by this technology, Seoul Robotics’ Level 5 Control Tower has begun commercial deployment for autonomous finished-vehicle logistics at a BMW plant in Germany. The company’s core 3D computer vision technology has also drawn significant attention, with a German industry report citing it as the world’s leading technology. Seoul Robotics is also preparing to work with nine of the world’s top 11 automotive OEMs, reflecting its strong reputation and technical capabilities.
With this Series B funding, Seoul Robotics aims to drive autonomous operations in the traditionally rigid automotive logistics market. It also plans to accelerate technology development for additional logistics applications, such as rental car fleets and truck terminals, and to provide the logistics industry with a leading infrastructure-based autonomous driving solution.
Seoul Robotics CEO Hanbin Lee said, "Seoul Robotics is showing how new infrastructure can help autonomous robots and vehicles reach their full potential. This groundbreaking approach has been made possible by our 3D computer vision technology, recognized as one of the most advanced solutions in the industry." He added, “We will continue developing innovative solutions for the autonomous driving industry and lead the future of mobility.”
KB Investment Director Junseok Lee said, "With labor shortages in the logistics industry making autonomous solutions increasingly urgent, Seoul Robotics has put its vision for infrastructure-based autonomy into practice. Its entirely new approach delivers substantial cost savings." He added, "The company’s success to date gives us complete confidence that it will continue transforming the logistics industry, and has made us very proud of Korea’s technological innovation."
FuturePlay Director Jaewoong Choi said, “Global OEMs, including Tesla, face common problems in automotive logistics: high costs and inefficiency. We expect Seoul Robotics to grow its customer base in the KRW 30 trillion automotive logistics market by leveraging its superior technology. We decided to make our largest investment to date to actively support its explosive growth.”
