Gaon Cable said on the 28th that it will supply approximately 50 billion won worth of distribution cables for a power plant project being developed by U.S. global tech giant Company A.

The project is a company-backed power plant initiative by a U.S. tech giant to secure a reliable electricity supply for its AI data centers.

Gaon Cable expects its direct contract with a global tech giant to open the door to greater participation in future power infrastructure projects.

As generative AI expands, global tech companies are moving beyond data centers to build their own power plants and secure electricity. With reliable power emerging as a key factor in AI competitiveness, investment in power sources is also growing rapidly.

Gaon Cable has expanded its partnerships with global tech companies through its U.S. subsidiary, LSCUS, which has signed long-term bus duct supply agreements worth more than 5 trillion won for AI data centers. This time, the parent company will also supply cables for power plants, extending its business into power generation infrastructure.

Gaon Cable’s exports to the United States are also growing rapidly. As cable supplies for AI data centers and power plants ramp up this year, exports are projected to reach approximately 300 billion won, about three times last year’s level.

Gaon Cable CEO Jung Hyun said, “The expansion of AI data centers is driving rapid growth not only in the transmission market but also in the distribution market. Building on our competitive strength as Korea’s No. 1 distribution cable supplier, we will strengthen our global market presence by supplying cables and power equipment together.”
