Mashup Angels announced on the 30th that it had made a seed investment in Algorima, the developer of EasyDeep, an AI learning solution for people without a technical background.

Founded in 2019, Algorima is an AI edtech startup. Led by CEO Youngwook Kim, a KAIST alumnus, the team comprises AI experts with experience at global companies including Amazon in the United States, L’Oréal in France, Deloitte and Kakao. Algorima developed EasyDeep to lower barriers to AI education, which had been difficult to access.

EasyDeep is an AI learning solution that anyone can use without coding or math knowledge. Its web-based software lets users build even complex models easily through drag-and-drop controls, without writing code. Tutorial-based lessons combine conceptual learning with hands-on application, making it easy and engaging for people with no prior knowledge of AI.

Applying the concepts of ▲learning by doing, ▲personalized learning experiences and ▲gamification, EasyDeep makes it easy to learn and build AI models through a user-friendly UI/UX. It also provides personalized, step-by-step learning experiences that support efficient self-study.

“Although AI is the most influential technology in our lives today, the coding barrier makes it difficult for the general public—anyone outside a small group of developers—to access AI education,” said Algorima CEO Youngwook Kim. “With this investment, we plan to focus on commercializing EasyDeep so anyone can easily learn about and experience AI without coding.”

“Demand is expected to grow significantly for AI curricula, learning content and tools designed for people without technical backgrounds, areas that are not yet well established,” said Mashup Angels CEO Taekyung Lee, explaining the investment. “We expect Algorima’s EasyDeep solution to play a major role not only in advancing AI education in Korea but also in global markets.”

Algorima was selected for Shinhan Future’s Lab just one month after its incorporation in February 2019. It has also been recognized as a leading company in K-Global Security Startup, the Seoul Innovation Challenge and the Ministry of Science and ICT’s AI competition.

Founded in 2013, Mashup Angels is an early-stage investment firm specializing in the ICT sector. It is a registered TIPS operator and has made early-stage investments in more than 90 startups, including Drama & Company (Remember), Bucketplace (Ohouse), StyleShare, Noom, Scatter Lab (Pingpong), WonderRabbit (Cashwalk), Tutoring, Shiftee and Tenping.
