Interbrid said on the 30th that it will launch a beta service in July to gauge market response to its ad-supported TUNE offering for small and midsize businesses and small business owners. The company is expanding into an ad-tech business that provides a global DOOH (digital out-of-home) platform, with an integrated service system covering advertising media and delivery, ad performance analytics, and content production.

Interbrid’s ad-supported TUNE is a new application of its existing smart media solution, TUNE. The company installs the solution at no cost on windows leased from small and midsize businesses and small business owners. It plays promotional videos for each store and sells the remaining airtime to other businesses, sharing the resulting revenue with the store owner.

The company said it developed the model after recognizing that many small and midsize businesses and small business owners cannot even consider outdoor advertising because of its high cost. The solution lets them promote their stores and brands in their preferred commercial districts at low cost using TUNE.

Participating stores can also use the time when their own promotional materials are not running to show other companies’ ads and share the resulting revenue with Interbrid. When they do not want to display their own materials or third-party ads, they can use the window as usual.

To support the initiative, Interbrid partnered last November with CRESOTI Co., Ltd., which has the largest infrastructure in South Korea’s pharmaceutical payment services market. It is running an aggressive promotional campaign targeting pharmacies nationwide, as well as pharmacists’ associations and pharmaceutical companies. The company has recently completed installations of ad-supported TUNE at eight pharmacies in the Seoul metropolitan area and two stores in other industries, bringing the total to 10 TUNE Shops.

All 10 TUNE Shops are equipped with traffic sensors that measure the number of passersby around each store in real time, allowing advertisers to assess campaign performance immediately.

“We are positioning our ad-supported smart media solution, TUNE Shop, as a new business model for small and midsize businesses and small business owners. By 2023, we plan to build an integrated advertising media network of about 3,300 locations in South Korea and overseas, including 1,300 TUNE Shops in South Korea,” said Interbrid CEO Park Jae-eun.
