aTaaS (Autonomous Transportation-as-a-Service) startup Code42 Inc. announced that it changed its name to 42dot Inc. on Aug. 1. The move aims to strengthen its identity as a mobility platform company ahead of the full-scale launch of its core technologies and services.

The name combines 42, a number that connects everything, with a dot representing the asterisk (*) symbol. It reflects the company’s ambition to find all the answers in mobility.

The new name, 42dot, highlights the number “42,” the company’s symbol. It pairs 42, which signifies connecting everything, with “dot,” a shortened form of asterisk (*), creating a fresh combination. The asterisk-shaped symbol, representing infinite expansion, serves as a distinctive emblem of 42dot’s identity.

42dot plans to use the rebranding as a springboard to accelerate development of UMOS (Urban Mobility Operating System), an integrated urban mobility platform. It also plans to step up efforts to connect services and technologies, build business partnerships and pursue agreements to establish a mobility ecosystem.

Following the name change, the company’s existing subsidiary will also be renamed 42 air, led by CEO Henk Goosen. Based in Silicon Valley, California, 42 air focuses on developing a delivery system using autonomous drones for maritime delivery. Its mission is to expand UMOS into a multimodal transportation network that enables autonomous operations not only in maritime shipping but also in urban logistics and aviation.

CEO Song Chang-hyun said, “This name change is a first milestone in remembering the innovation Code42 has pursued over a short period and preparing for the era of 42dot. Before UMOS technologies and services are introduced to the world, we will build an attractive network through the UMOS Alliance to raise awareness of what makes 42dot unique.”
