Interline announced on the 27th that it has launched Fitting Monster, a virtual try-on eyewear shopping mall.

Since the COVID-19 pandemic accelerated the shift toward contactless shopping, online sales have increased across a range of products, from daily necessities to other goods. Eyewear is among the categories seeing steady growth in online purchases.

Fitting Monster is a virtual reality (VR)-based eyewear shopping mall that lets users rotate a virtual try-on image of their face, scanned with a camera, within a 60-degree range in either direction. Users can also share the image on social media.

The service overcomes the limitations of conventional live try-on methods. Even people with poor eyesight can view how glasses look on their face after a single scan. In particular, one scan is all it takes to virtually try on every pair of glasses listed on the site, with no additional photos required, making the service convenient and enhancing customer satisfaction.

Accurate data is needed to show faces and glasses at their actual proportions. While previous technology adjusted the glasses to the size of the face, Fitting Monster extracts or selects facial width and pupillary distance (PD) from the scanned face to show how products from a range of brands look as if the user were wearing real glasses.

Building on its virtual try-on solution, Fitting Monster is conducting research and development to provide a web API, complementing its existing app service, improving convenience for users, and expanding its business.

The company also plans to supply virtual try-on smart mirrors, which it is developing with companies specializing in middleware and hardware, to offline eyewear stores as soon as possible to offer consumers a range of services.

Interline CEO Kim Jae-yoon said, “As the rate of online eyewear purchases rises every year, the virtual try-on market for glasses and sunglasses buyers is also expected to grow. When developing Fitting Monster, our central question was, ‘How can we make glasses look as if consumers are actually wearing them?’ Fitting Monster stands apart from existing virtual try-on services while making things more convenient for both consumers and sellers.”
