Home repair brokerage platform Sugong announced on the 10th that it had been selected for the third cohort of SpringCamp’s Campfire accelerator program and received seed funding.

SpringCamp is an early-stage venture capital firm that has invested in services already proven with consumers, including Today’s House and Class101.

Sugong was recently selected for the third cohort of SpringCamp’s Campfire accelerator program and received seed funding from SpringCamp. The program runs through the end of November.

Sugong is Korea’s only home repair specialist service, connecting consumers with experts across 34 specialized fields, including sinks, bathrooms, window screens, windows and doors, and electrical work. Some talent marketplace platforms also offer repair services, but they have been criticized for a lack of expertise and inadequate after-service support.

To address these issues, Sugong identifies and vets local specialists directly, then recommends them to customers to improve satisfaction.

Using an algorithm based on accumulated data, Sugong recommends up to five contractors tailored to each consumer. Consumers can compare quotes and choose a contractor.

Sugong has built up data through around 100,000 home repair brokerage transactions, even before launching its platform. The company said it has continued to innovate by analyzing data in the fragmented home repair sector and standardizing prices and services. The platform has also been well received by contractors, with more than 3,000 joining within three months of its launch. This has created a structure in which both consumers and providers in the home repair market benefit.

A Sugong representative said, “We will work to ensure that consumers, who have had no choice but to accept unfair prices and services due to information asymmetry, can get home repairs at reasonable prices through Sugong, the only home repair specialist platform offering standardized services.”
