Livestock healthcare solutions startup Korea Livestock Data, which operates Farmsplan, announced on the 25th that it has secured investment from an Impact Fund.
Impact funds invest in small and midsize businesses and venture companies whose work advances one or more of the UN’s 17 Sustainable Development Goals, including climate action, energy, pollution, poverty and employment. They seek both financial returns and social impact by backing innovative, high-growth companies. In South Korea, KB Financial Group, Korea Development Bank and SK Group have also established related funds, making impact investing a growing trend.
Korea Livestock Data is a leading South Korean livestock tech company that operates Farmsplan, a livestock healthcare solution powered by artificial intelligence, big data and biotechnology. Farmsplan analyzes real-time CCTV footage from farms, conducts periodic blood tests and uses big data to provide veterinary prescriptions and solutions tailored to each farm. By adopting Farmsplan, farmers can prevent livestock diseases, cut medication costs, boost productivity and produce higher-quality livestock products.
Since its founding in 2017, the company has raised a total of 5.8 billion won, including 4.5 billion won in Series A funding last June from Naver D2 Startup Factory, Korea Omega Investment Corporation and Woori Bank.
Moon Sung-hyun, a senior investment manager at Coolidge Corner Investment who led the latest investment, said, "South Korea’s pig farming industry has steadily expanded in scale, but qualitative growth has lagged: the number of pigs marketed per sow (MSY) is among the lowest in OECD countries. We were impressed that Korea Livestock Data is using its outstanding technology to raise MSY and dramatically reduce mortality and antibiotic costs, delivering both strong financial growth and meaningful social impact."
Kyunohm Kyung, CEO of Korea Livestock Data, said, "This Impact Fund investment recognizes that our livestock healthcare solutions—a business model still unfamiliar even globally—can drive company growth while addressing social issues and contributing to the public good. Through digital innovation across the livestock industry, we will work toward true 'One Health' by improving the entire ecosystem, including people, animals and the environment."
After securing Impact Fund investment, Korea Livestock Data plans to enhance its livestock healthcare technology, expand into additional livestock species and refine its business model to serve both producers and consumers. The company aims to build a livestock tech ecosystem that producers and consumers can both support by applying deep tech across every stage of the livestock industry, from production and distribution to consumption.
