Healthcare startup Doinglab said on the 29th that it recently raised an additional 1.5 billion won from Insight Equity Partners.

The investment comes as the healthcare market draws attention due to COVID-19. Investors valued Doinglab’s expertise and technology in healthcare and AI-powered food recognition.

The latest funding follows investments from Naver and GC Healthcare, bringing Doinglab’s total funding to 4 billion won.

Doinglab plans to use the funds to advance its Food Lens AI food-recognition technology and expand its remote healthcare service, SangSik. In particular, the company aims to enhance Food Lens so it can recognize foods from around the world and prepare for global expansion.

Doinglab CEO Jin Song-baek said, “We are preparing clinical validation with medical institutions to demonstrate the nutritional benefits SangSik can deliver to people with medical conditions.”

Founded in 2016, Doinglab supplies Food Lens—a commercialized technology that uses AI to recognize food in photos and analyze its nutritional information—to more than 10 organizations, including five major Korean corporations. The company also operates the Diet Camera AI app, which automatically logs meals from photos so users can manage their diets. Recently, it launched SangSik, a remote one-on-one nutrition counseling service for people interested in nutrition management, as well as people with diabetes and other medical conditions who need nutritional support.
