Wrtn Technologies, developer of Wrtn, an AI-powered writing solution, announced on the 31st that it reached the finals of the 2021 AI Data Utilization Competition and the 3rd Korea Gas Corporation Big Data and AI Startup Competition, winning an Excellence Award and the grand prize, respectively.
Wrtn Technologies develops Wrtn to identify and address the challenges Generation Z faces when writing. Using natural language processing (NLP), Wrtn provides personalized writing guidance through web-based software that helps student users organize their thoughts and express them logically in writing.
The 2021 AI Data Utilization Competition, whose awards ceremony was held on the 16th, was hosted by the Ministry of Science and ICT to promote advances in AI technology and the creation of new services based on AI training data, and to help identify AI talent. Wrtn Technologies entered a problem-solving competition focused on addressing an issue faced by Naver in Korean conversation summarization and received the President’s Award from the National Information Society Agency.
On the 24th, the company also won the grand prize at the 3rd Korea Gas Corporation Big Data and AI Startup Competition. Among 350 participating teams, Wrtn Technologies won the startup division’s grand prize in the “Development of a Document Summarization Model for the Gas and Energy Sector” category. The results were based on a first-round quantitative assessment and a second-round presentation judging excellence, technical merit, reliability, and growth potential.
Wrtn Technologies CEO Se-young Lee said, “It was a great opportunity to test Wrtn’s capabilities by taking on challenges in a range of fields beyond education, where we have strengths.” Lee added, “We will use AI to support the learning process and provide highly personalized educational experiences, creating significant value.”
Founded in April this year, Wrtn Technologies has secured seed funding from startup investor Mashup Angels, drawing on more than seven years of experience providing writing education to Generation Z. The company also received the Minister of Trade, Industry and Energy Award in September and the Seoul Metropolitan Government Award in October.
Wrtn Technologies recently placed second among 3,848 teams in the preliminary startup league of Challenge! K-Startup 2021, South Korea’s largest interagency startup competition. It was also selected for C-Lab Outside, Samsung Electronics’ startup incubation program.
