New Paradigm Investment announced on the 13th that, following its investment performance last year, it plans to invest a total of 7 billion won this year under its 2022 management goals, making new investments in 15 companies and follow-on investments in at least seven.
New Paradigm Investment, which had 30 billion won in assets under management at the end of last year, released an infographic titled “for 2022 New Paradigm 2.0” outlining its investment performance last year and management goals for this year. The figures cover the period from January 1 to December 31, 2021.
“To support early-stage startups, we secured a total of 30 billion won in new and follow-on investment capital through last year and expanded our investment capacity by forming funds. New Paradigm’s investment partnerships comprise five funds with a total size of 20.8 billion won. Including our proprietary account, we have 30 billion won in assets under management. Last year, we raised 11.1 billion won for Fund No. 5 with a commitment from the Korea Fund of Funds, and we plan to raise 15 billion won for Fund No. 6 this year,” said Bae Sang-seung, CEO of New Paradigm Investment.
Focusing on AI, big data, healthcare, food tech, O2O platforms and the metaverse—fields driving the Fourth Industrial Revolution—New Paradigm Investment made 17 investments last year, including 13 new investments and four follow-on investments, totaling 4.7 billion won.
The company’s portfolio currently includes 41 companies. Three—Blue Mtec, VINSSEN and Artifriends—have received Series B or later funding. Based on their follow-on funding rounds, their combined valuation is estimated at 230 billion won. Among companies it backed at an early stage, seven, including Spidercraft, PhenoMax, Sound Republica and BuySell Standard, have secured follow-on Series A funding.
“As part of our 2022 goals, we aim to help a cumulative total of eight companies grow to baby unicorn scale, select 15 new companies for TIPS and WINGS, and help more than 20 companies secure follow-on funding at Series A or later. We aim to select, grow and graduate more baby unicorn-scale companies than any other investor in ICT and healthcare, two key Fourth Industrial Revolution sectors. We will provide portfolio companies with a range of growth programs and value-enhancement support,” said Bae Sang-seung, CEO of New Paradigm.
Co-CEO Park Je-hyun added, “We have built a strong portfolio, including Blue Mtec, Spidercraft, VINSSEN and Artifriends. This year, to sustain the ‘second venture boom,’ we will deliver meaningful results by providing promising startups with a range of support, including new and follow-on investments and mentoring. We will focus on startups that are already showing early performance indicators, strengthen those indicators and provide all the support they need to make a quantum leap to baby unicorn scale.”
