AnimalGo, the startup behind the pet platform of the same name, announced on the 23rd that it had secured an investment from FuturePlay. The amount was not disclosed.

AnimalGo operates the AnimalGo app, an all-in-one O2O platform where users can find services such as pet hotels, kindergartens and cafes, as well as four offline stores in Samsung, Dobong and Nonhyeon in Seoul and on Jeju Island.

Using the AnimalGo platform’s deep-learning technology, users can view data on their pets’ breed, bowel movements, age and emotions. Based on this data, the platform recommends pet products and food tailored to each animal. AnimalGo plans to collect pet data through IoT products and platform services in pet tech, then use it offline to enhance its in-store services.

AnimalGo also plans to develop pet health checkup services and dedicated pet insurance, as well as a metaverse-style monitoring system that lets owners easily check on their pets’ safety while they are away.

To support its growth, the company is continuing to recruit talent, including Professor Cho Sung-ho of the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology and Kim Seok-joong, CPO, who led early product planning and commercialization at edtech startup Luxrobo.

“As a strong partner in AnimalGo’s growth, which has significant potential in the pet tech market, FuturePlay will provide support across the board,” said Kwon Oh-hyung, a partner at FuturePlay. “Its technical capabilities and expertise in online and offline operations could enable it to expand into areas such as pet food and insurance, helping it grow into Korea’s No. 1 pet tech company.”

Meanwhile, AnimalGo is preparing to become a competitive player in the global market through research and development collaboration on IoT devices and platforms based on pets’ biometric data, working with faculty and doctoral researchers from Harvard University, the University of Pittsburgh and the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign.
