Fitness tech startup Spoto has received an enthusiastic response to its proof of concept (PoC) in New York and Boston.

Spoto develops wearables and an app for high-intensity workouts. For the PoC, it recruited 100 CrossFit athletes and coaches in the New York and Boston areas to test a closed beta of its performance tracker.

Within two weeks of opening recruitment, word of mouth filled all 100 spots, and another 200 people applied. Inquiries poured in from across the United States, demonstrating strong interest in Spoto.

Buoyed by that interest, Spoto plans to recruit additional CrossFit athletes and coaches in the western United States in December.

Spoto is also stepping up efforts to explore business opportunities with local companies. It is discussing potential collaborations with Invictus, the world’s largest CrossFit gym and brand, and MFLH, one of the most popular CrossFit brands today.

“Although the pandemic delayed our U.S. expansion by two years, we’re all the more pleased and encouraged by the stronger-than-expected response here,” said Spoto CEO Kim Young-jin. “This PoC confirmed that our conviction was well-founded and that our efforts so far were not in vain.” He added, “We’ll accelerate development with the goal of launching in the first half of 2024.”

Founded in 2018, Spoto is a fitness tech startup. It develops products and technology that accurately measure workout performance and automate recordkeeping in indoor environments, where existing wearable devices have difficulty measuring activity.
