On the 23rd, Genesis signed a five-year sponsorship agreement with The Metropolitan Museum of Art, launching an art partnership that will offer global audiences a range of inspiration and experiences.
The collaboration reflects a shared commitment by Genesis and The Met to engage global audiences in creative ways.
As part of the partnership, Genesis will sponsor The Genesis Facade Commission, which presents installations by leading artists on the museum’s exterior facade.
Founded in 1870, The Metropolitan Museum of Art is one of the world’s four leading art museums. Its collection spans 5,000 years of art history and includes tens of thousands of works. More than 7 million people visit each year.
The Facade Commission, launched in 2019, is one of The Met’s signature contemporary art exhibition series. Past featured artists include Wangechi Mutu, Carol Bove, Hew Locke and Nairy Baghramian.
The first exhibition in The Genesis Facade Commission will run for about eight months, from September 12 through May 27 next year. It will feature four new large-scale installations by internationally renowned contemporary artist Lee Bul.
Since the late 1980s, Lee Bul has worked across sculpture, painting, video and performance, exploring themes including humanity’s yearning for utopia, the promises and pitfalls of technological progress, and division. Her work has earned international acclaim.
Through its collaboration with The Met, Genesis hopes to introduce audiences to artists with distinctive, innovative bodies of work and offer them deeper inspiration and experiences.
“We are delighted and honored that Genesis is beginning a new journey in arts patronage with The Metropolitan Museum of Art,” said Chung Eui-sun, Executive Chair of Hyundai Motor Group. “Through this partnership, we hope to become part of The Met community, inspire many people and help bring the visions of internationally respected creators to the world.”
“The facade is one of the museum’s most iconic and accessible exhibition spaces, and it consistently showcases work by some of today’s most innovative artists,” said Max Hollein, Director and CEO of The Metropolitan Museum of Art. “We are grateful for Genesis’s generous support. Through this partnership, both museum visitors and New Yorkers will be able to enjoy new exhibitions and find inspiration year after year.”
Genesis plans to continue supporting cultural and artistic initiatives that reveal enduring value and meaning. Next May, the company will sponsor The Genesis Exhibition: Do Ho Suh at Tate Modern in London, continuing its distinctive approach to art partnerships.
