Hyosung Advanced Materials, a core company of HS Hyosung Group, will participate in CAMX (the Composites and Advanced Materials Expo) 2024, held in San Diego, California, from September 9 to 12.

Co-hosted by SAMPE and ACMA, the largest composites industry associations in the United States, CAMX is North America’s largest composites trade show. Hyosung Advanced Materials has participated every year since 2014 as it works to expand its global market presence.

At this year’s show, Hyosung Advanced Materials will debut a new high-strength fiber for high-pressure vessels, with greater tensile strength than its existing fibers. Alongside carbon fiber, the company will display high-pressure vessels, automotive wheels, and bicycle frames, and promote its TANSOME® carbon fiber brand in meetings with customers.

Hyosung Advanced Materials is particularly focused on the growth of the U.S. high-pressure vessel market. The spread of renewable natural gas and the launch of heavy-duty trucks with CNG engines are driving sustained growth in demand for CNG vehicles and high-pressure vessels for transportation. The market for hydrogen vehicles and transportation vessels is also expected to expand further as the United States pursues its “zero truck carbon emissions policy” through 2042. Industry estimates project that the carbon fiber market for high-pressure vessels will grow at an average annual rate of 16% from 2024 to 2026.

In 2011, Hyosung Advanced Materials developed TANSOME®, a high-strength carbon fiber it calls a “super fiber,” using proprietary technology for the first time in South Korea. Weighing one-quarter as much as steel, it is more than 10 times as strong. In 2022, the company also developed H3065 (T-1000 grade), an ultra-high-strength carbon fiber more than 14 times as strong as steel, and plans to expand into the aerospace sector.

Hyosung Advanced Materials, which has become a flagship company of HS Hyosung Group under Vice Chairman Cho Hyun-sang, has steadily expanded its Jeonju plant, which has been in operation since 2013, as it develops carbon fiber as a future growth business. The company is also targeting markets worldwide through production bases in China, Vietnam, and elsewhere.
