Silicon Valley startup Amber announced on the 10th (local time) the official launch of Amber Care, the first integrated EV diagnostics and extended warranty program available nationwide in the United States.
With the launch, Amber has expanded its warranty program—which covers parts and repairs and initially operated in 11 states—to 47 states across the country. The company has also secured regulatory approvals for EV services and licenses for its warranty program.
Amber also announced a new remote diagnostics feature that lets Tesla owners learn about their vehicle’s condition using only its vehicle identification number, without visiting a repair shop.
Every Amber Care plan includes a standard remote inspection at no charge. For an additional fee, customers can receive a detailed vehicle condition report and a free consultation with an expert to help interpret it.
The program covers thousands of Tesla parts, particularly for owners of vehicles whose warranties have expired and customers seeking coverage beyond the standard warranty. It also offers online billing for diagnostic appointments at authorized repair shops, repair estimates and invoice payments, as well as coverage for towing after a roadside breakdown and rental costs during repairs.
Amber secured its initial investment from Primer Sazze Partners, which invests in Korean and U.S. startups. The company was co-founded by Tim Hwang, founder of AI and big data company FiscalNote, which went public on the New York Stock Exchange in 2022.
“Amber’s mission is to develop and innovate aftermarket insurance, repair and maintenance services tailored to the global growth of the EV industry,” said Joe Pak, Amber’s co-founder and CEO. “We plan to expand Amber Care globally and hope to bring our services to EV customers around the world, including in South Korea.”
