GC Biopharma announced on the 11th that it will acquire all shares in ABO Holdings. Based in California, ABO Holdings operates six plasma centers across New Jersey, Utah and California. Two more centers are under construction in Texas, bringing the total to eight when they are completed in 2026.
GC Biopharma said it is pursuing the acquisition to secure a stable supply of raw materials as it expands its business for ALYGLO, a blood product it has been exporting to the United States since July.
GC Biopharma said the acquisition completes its vertical integration, from sourcing raw materials for plasma-derived products through production and sales. It added that it will use the acquisition as a springboard for a quantum leap and aim to become a global top-tier blood products company.
ALYGLO is an immunoglobulin blood product that received U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approval in December last year. It is a 10% intravenous immunoglobulin used to treat primary humoral immunodeficiency, also known as primary immunodeficiency.
The product is manufactured using the company’s proprietary cation exchange chromatography (CEX) process. Its key advantage is superior safety compared with existing drugs, including minimal levels of impurities such as coagulation factor XIa (FXIa).
