LG CNS recently signed a contract with the New York City Economic Development Corporation for a pilot project to build electric vehicle chargers (EVCs) and a control system. The project will build and operate EV charging stations at the Brooklyn Army Terminal, an industrial complex in New York City. The Brooklyn Army Terminal is a New York City startup hub that helps companies test technologies in real-world settings before commercializing their products and services.

LG CNS joined the project through a DX partnership MOU with New York City in November 2023. At the Brooklyn Army Terminal, the company will install and operate EV chargers, a charging and discharging control system that provides real-time energy usage data, and an app. Users will be able to check charging status, reserve chargers, and see real-time availability at charging stations, among other services.

LG CNS will use its proprietary smart city platform, Cityhub Building, as the control system. Based on IoT technology, the platform monitors and controls various equipment in factories and buildings. It enables real-time monitoring of equipment malfunctions and building power consumption through remote control of sensors, and supports the management of digital content on building signage.

Building on this contract, LG CNS plans to pursue future projects in New York City to supply Level 3 ultra-fast chargers and energy storage systems (ESS).

The project is part of New York City’s Green Economy Action Plan. Recognizing LG CNS’s smart city capabilities, the city selected the company to take part in a pilot project to build EV charging infrastructure. LG CNS plans to continue strengthening its cooperation with New York City in smart cities, in addition to this project.

LG CNS to build smart poles and a control system in Hogansville, Georgia

LG CNS has also signed a contract with the city of Hogansville, Georgia, to build smart poles and a control system. Under the project, LG CNS will install smart poles and related infrastructure in downtown Hogansville and its parks.

Smart poles are urban infrastructure that combines IoT capabilities with traffic signals or streetlights. They incorporate smart city technologies such as lighting controls, public Wi-Fi, AI-powered CCTV, and environmental sensors. They help monitor traffic and public safety and collect various types of city data. The control system being built for this project will manage multiple smart poles and run on LG CNS’s smart city platform, Cityhub Building.

In addition to basic IoT features, LG CNS will equip the smart poles with EV chargers, digital signage, and emergency call buttons. The buttons will connect to police stations and other facilities to support public safety and emergency response. These features will further improve convenience for Hogansville residents and enhance the city’s safety.

LG CNS plans to use this project as a springboard to expand into nearby Georgia cities, including LaGrange and West Point.

“Our smart city infrastructure projects in the United States are a strong example of the global recognition LG CNS has earned for its accumulated DX capabilities and expertise,” said LG CNS CEO Hyun Shin-kyun. “We will continue expanding eco-friendly smart city infrastructure in the United States and take the lead in building a sustainable future.”
