LG Household & Health Care’s premium hair loss and scalp care brand Dr. Groot is making a major push into Costco stores across North America—including the United States, Canada and Mexico—on the back of strong online sales in the region. The move is unusual for a Korean shampoo brand, as entry into North American Costco stores is highly selective, and is seen as proof of the global competitiveness of K-beauty scalp care.
Starting October 6, LG Household & Health Care will sell Dr. Groot products at 682 Costco stores across North America, including every Costco location in the United States as well as stores in Canada and Mexico. The expansion comes about two years after the brand entered the North American online market in November 2023.
The product launching at North American Costco stores is Hair Thickening Shampoo, part of Dr. Groot’s Scalp Revitalizing Solution line, the brand’s flagship range in the region. The shampoo went on sale on Costco’s U.S. website in March and, alongside another product in the line, Miracle in Shower Treatment, drew attention as one of the most popular new products ever launched on Costco’s online store.
Word of mouth grew through a combination of the products’ performance and marketing efforts, including beauty influencer review videos and TikTok hashtag challenges, naturally driving purchases. Dr. Groot has also gained significant popularity on Amazon, North America’s largest online marketplace, and TikTok. North American sales rose more than 790% year over year from January through July this year.
Building on its online success, Dr. Groot is expanding customer access by entering Costco’s North American stores. Costco members in the United States, Canada and Mexico can now try and purchase Dr. Groot products at local stores. Its placement in every U.S. Costco store, where the bar for entry is high, underscores the brand’s ability to compete in brick-and-mortar retail through differentiated products.
LG Household & Health Care said Dr. Groot will earn the trust of North American consumers through outstanding quality and authentic marketing. The company added that it will continue sustainable growth in domestic and international markets while showcasing its scalp care technology and K-beauty innovation.
Launched in 2017 as a specialist scalp and hair care brand, Dr. Groot offers products based on scientific research that help alleviate hair loss symptoms. It currently ranks No. 1 in market share in South Korea’s shampoo market for hair loss symptom care.*
