- To be held January 27 at Carnegie Hall’s Weill Recital Hall in Manhattan
- A showcase of teachers’ passion and hope... the orchestra’s fourth international performance since its founding
The Gyeonggi Teachers Philharmonic Orchestra (KTPO),
an active ensemble based in Gyeonggi Province, South Korea,
will take the stage in New York, a global center of classical music.
KTPO announced that it will hold a special concert
at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, January 27, at Carnegie Hall’s Weill Recital Hall in Manhattan, New York.
The concert will give members—currently serving teachers from kindergartens, elementary schools, middle schools and high schools across Gyeonggi Province—the opportunity to share with the world the skills they have honed.
Building a beautiful school culture through music
Conductor Cha Pyeong-on founded KTPO in 2013 with the aim of “building a beautiful school culture through music.” The orchestra currently has
around 90 members
who strive to find renewed energy in their teaching careers while serving as artistic role models for students.
Through 19 regular concerts, school outreach performances and corporate concerts, the orchestra has had a positive impact on its community. It has also successfully served as a
cultural ambassador
through invited performances in five Eastern European countries, including Germany, Austria and Hungary, as well as in Spain and Cambodia.
A moving program, from classical music to Arirang
The first half of the Carnegie Hall concert will feature Mozart’s “The Marriage of Figaro” Overture, followed by Mozart’s Clarinet Concerto and a Haydn symphony, showcasing the best of classical music.
The second half will feature
“Spring in My Hometown” and an Arirang medley,
along with an Irish suite and “Amazing Grace,” among other works symbolizing harmony between Korea and the United States. Soprano Yoo So-young will perform as a guest soloist, while concertos featuring violin, oboe, horn and other instruments will further enrich the program.
Featuring pianist Ahn In-sook, the concert will be KTPO’s fourth international performance since its founding. It is expected to be a valuable opportunity to demonstrate the artistic capabilities of South Korea’s education community on one of the world’s most prestigious stages.
