K-Valley View: Expert Analysis
JJ & Companies’ MOU, concluded alongside the opening of the U.S.-Korea Shipbuilding Cooperation Center, is an example of a private-sector partnership demonstrating the “restructuring of maritime MRO and shipbuilding supply chains based on the U.S.-Korea alliance.” It is significant because domestic smart yard and MRO software technologies will be directly applied to address long-standing priorities in the U.S. shipbuilding industry: “improving productivity” and “digital transformation.” The partnership is expected to serve as a unique technological foothold in future efforts to expand U.S. Navy repair work and the Pacific port network.
