HD Hyundai Heavy Industries will supply large-scale power generation equipment to a data center operated by a U.S. big tech company.
HD Hyundai Heavy Industries said Monday, the 10th, that it recently signed a contract with U.S. energy infrastructure developer Corban Energy Group to supply power generation equipment powered by 9.6 MW HiMSEN engines. The equipment, with a total capacity of 1,000 megawatts (MW) and valued at 956 billion won, will be used to supply power to a local big tech company’s data center.
Corban Energy Group specializes in energy infrastructure and engineering, supplying gas, LNG and power products for data center construction, Department of War (DoW) projects and other infrastructure ventures.
This is HD Hyundai Heavy Industries’ largest-ever contract to supply power generation engines. In April, the company signed a 627.1 billion won contract to supply power generation equipment for data centers to U.S. energy infrastructure developer AEG.
The 9.6 MW HiMSEN power generation engines are large-capacity, medium-speed engines that deliver world-class power generation efficiency and reliability. Their high output and efficiency allow them to operate around the clock, giving them a competitive edge in the data center market.
The two companies plan to build on this engine supply contract by working closely together on future projects and expanding their business cooperation.
The U.S. market for data center power generation equipment has been growing rapidly, driven by the spread of AI services and increased investment in cloud infrastructure. According to the Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI), data centers’ share of total U.S. electricity consumption is expected to more than triple by 2030.
HD Hyundai is expanding its group-wide response to the trend. HD Korea Shipbuilding & Offshore Engineering, the group’s shipbuilding holding company, is focusing on developing core technologies for floating data centers. Meanwhile, HD Hyundai Electric and HD Hyundai Marine Solution are seeking to gain an early foothold in the market by expanding their respective businesses in power distribution and electrical equipment, and power generation engine maintenance and repair.
HD Hyundai Heavy Industries said the stream of inquiries about partnerships in the data center power generation engine market shows that the technology and reliability of its HiMSEN engines have been proven. The company added that it will explore a range of business opportunities to strengthen its position in the power generation equipment market.
